Featured Artist - Walter Rose

Featured Artist,
~ Walter Rose ~

"Walter Rose writes of lost love, hard times and the beauty that lies between. His debut EP plays like a cathartic journal with lyrics that are nothing less than honest. Rose’s heartfelt analog recordings speak of a bygone era of folk-country singer-song writers. This is an artist who wants nothing more than to be true to his craft. With his heart on his sleeve Walter Rose keeps no secrets but holds plenty of mystery."  - Fourth Street Records

I am so excited to bring Walter Rose into this Blog today! Walter Rose is a local boy from the same place that I grew up. I discovered Walter Rose's music thanks to the hard work of a very old, and very wonderful, mutual friend. I was lucky enough to see Walter Rose play only a few weeks ago, and I must say, it took my breath away. His soft, gravelly voice mesmerizes you and swiftly catches you in its embrace. It makes you dream of another time. A different place.
I hope you enjoy this tiny glimpse of this mysterious man, and listen to his music with as much joy as I do.  Of course, I'm listening to his E.P. as I put this together. "Driving South", on repeat. ☺ My favorite new song. My recomendation, click play on the Amazon media player to your right, or link over to 4th St. Records in another window, and LISTEN to this amazing musician while reading his interview.  So, without further adieu, Walter Rose...

1. Who are you? Where are you from, how old are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am Walter Rose. I am 33. I am from Carmel, CA by way of Honolulu.

2. What kind of music do you play?

I am a singer/songwriter of the Alt-Country and/or Americana persuasion.

3. How long have you been a musician,  and how did you get into music?

I have been playing music nearly all my life but I didn’t really do much with it until my late 20’s. In a lot of ways I still see myself as more of a storyteller than a musician.

4. When did you decide to make the leap from hobby to Profession?

I don’t think it was really a leap, or if it is I am still up in the air, yet to land on the other side. I think of it more as a river crossing hopping from rock to rock. It seems I am reaching the point where the destination is getting closer and the side I left is now further away.

5. INSPIRATION.

My inspiration can come from a lot of places but the majority of my songs are written about my own life experiences.

6. Explain your process a bit.

My process…well, that’s hard to answer because it’s not always the same. Sometimes it starts with a guitar riff or a melody or it could be a phrase. Sometimes songs take years to finish and some are complete in 15 minutes but those are rare.

7. What are your goals and dreams, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Goals…well to be making a living as a musician, songwriter, and producer in any order. To have a happy loving family and be financially secure. That sounds great.

8. Anything and everything else about yourself that you would like to share.

I am so grateful for the positive feedback I have been receiving around the globe from the Netherlands, Sydney, to Italy and of course at home. I am always looking for great players as well. So, if someone likes my music and would like to jump on the Walter Rose train, please contact me. And of course I am always looking for gigs, be it solo acoustic or with my band.

9. Where can you be found?

I can be found at 4thstrecords.com. For a limited time my self-titled EP is available for free download at the website. It is for sale at itunes and Amazon.com as well. Also at 4thstrecords.com you can buy CDs and T-shirts.
